NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Attention kids! Help design a new playground at Centennial Park! Some of the grown ups are working hard to create a very special place to play, and they want ideas from the people who know what a playground needs the most - the kids!

Kids can turn in either a drawing or an essay on what their “dream playground” would look like.

The grown-ups are in the pre-design stage, but they want input from kids on what their “dream playground” would look like. Then, as the playground is designed they want to incorporate some of the ideas from the kids' designs!

Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Get an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper
  2. Use crayons, pens, pencils - whatever you want - and draw your dream playground OR if you don’t want to draw a picture, write an essay describing what you think a dream playground looks like.
  3. Grab a grown-up and take your drawing or essay to one of the Runza Restaurants in North Platte. Take your idea inside the Runza. Don’t go to the drive-thru because the drive-thru people cannot take your entry.
  4. The deadline is Wednesday, November 4.

Organizers say they will also be surveying parents and community members as the project proceeds. They want the playground to a unique and special place specific to North Platte.

And once it is designed, they’ll be asking people to help them build it too. Organizers saying it will be a community built playground that everyone can take ownership of and have a lot of pride in something done as a community.
