Veterans honored with drive-thru meal at local elementary school
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Jefferson Elementary hosted a drive-thru meal serving veterans in the community. They have held this event for roughly 10 years, but this year had its share of challenges due to COVID-19.
“This was just one event we refused to cancel,” said Emily Hasenauer, one of the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) presidents.
Veterans were able to drive up and receive a meal curbside delivered by parents and teachers of Jefferson Elementary. This event was their way of showing their appreciation and gratitude for serving our nation.
“We just want to say thank you," Hasenauer said. "Thank you for serving. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made. The sacrifices your family has made. We just want you to know we appreciate everything you have done.”
This year, many businesses and groups contributed to the event. The Lincoln county diner donated pancake batter and the Awanas make the pancakes. Jefferson Elementary PTO provided the sausage links, the syrup, butter and additional items as needed.
Some teachers, parents and principal, helping pack and serve the meals. A few of the local boy scouts were in attendance to represent the colors.
