NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - 19-year-old Harlie Saathoff is being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center. At court in Lincoln County Court Thursday, Judge Kent Turnbull set bail at one million dollars. Accused of stabbing and killing her boyfriend, 20-year-old Bryce Wood, Saathoff faces up to life in prison if found guilty.

Saathoff appeared in Lincoln County Court at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, just hours after Wood was found stabbed, and then died of his injuries. The teen’s next court date is set for November 19 at 1:30 p.m. in Lincoln County Court.

According to Lincoln County Court records, Saathoff called 911 after Wood was stabbed. The responding officer reports Saathoff was hysterical when responders arrived. Saathoff told the officer she had stabbed her live-in boyfriend, Bryce Wood. Wood was lying face down in a pool of blood, struggling to stand up when responders arrived.

Court records show an 11-inch kitchen knife was found on the bedroom floor, and Saathoff confirmed it was the knife used to stab Wood.

Saathoff explained to authorities she and Wood were in an argument over a text she had sent. She said Wood slapped her in the face during the argument. Saathoff reports going to the kitchen for the knife, and then returning to the bedroom to confront Wood. Saathoff claims in court documents that she made a “forward motion with the knife in an attempt to scare Bryce into leaving the apartment.” Wood backed up and fell on to the bed. Saathoff went down as well and ended up stabbing Wood once in the abdomen. She said she called police immediately.

Court records tell the story of a troubled relationship pattern between Wood and Saathoff with Wood being arrested once for a felony domestic issue with Saathoff the victim in April 2020. Several other disturbances were indicated.

Charges agains Saathoff are Murder in the second degree, a Class 1B felony, and Use of a deadly weapon to commit a felong, a Class II felony.
