Local law enforcement officials participate in “Click it or Ticket” campaign
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -The Click it or Ticket Campaign has begun nationwide. The primary focus for the campaign is to encourage people to wear their seat beats.
As of Monday, there have been 208 reported roadway fatalities. Of that, 144 of the fatalities occurred in rural areas.
“With the number of fatalities we have, approximately two thirds happen in rural communities,” said North Platte Troop D Captain Tyler Schmidt. “Since we are in the rural part of our state, it is even more important for us to help push that message and remind people to wear their seat belts.”
As many people plan to travel for the holidays, law enforcement officials want to ensure any travelers' safety.
“Not only are our troopers, deputies, police officers on the roadways making sure they are safe, but we have family on the roadways as well. Making sure everyone’s family gets home safe for holidays and this season is what we look forward for,” said Captain Schmidt.
There are many stories about how wearing a seat belt has saved lives or could have prevented the loss lives which are one of the reasons why the Click it or Ticket Campaign is important.
“It is really about the safety and care that we want to make sure everyone arrives to their destination," said Captain Schmidt.
