Tigers win a double overtime thriller to claim first state championship

BURWELL, Neb. (KNOP) -

The Dundy County-Stratton Tigers football team won their first ever state championship on Friday night, defeating Burwell in a double overtime thriller.

Burwell scored with less than four minutes to play in the fourth quarter to take a 28-20 lead, but Dundy County-Stratton responded with a touchdown of their own on 4th and 27 and converted the two-point conversation with 47 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 28.

Burwell scored on the first play of overtime to retake the lead, but once again, Dundy County-Stratton had an answer. Quade Myers scored a rushing touchdown to tie the game and the Tigers converted the two point conversion to tie things back up at 36. Dundy County-Stratton scored to start off the second overtime and made a fourth down stand to defeat Burwell 42-36.

This is the third consecutive year Burwell has finished as the state runner up in D1.
