Wreaths Across America faces shortage on local donations as deadline approaches
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - With the Wreaths Across America event at Fort McPherson National Cemetery less than a month away, time is running out to donate a wreath.
Due to the pandemic, a public ceremony will not be held, but wreaths will still be placed at the grave belonging to the veterans buried there.
The Lee Bird Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is helping support this event. Every year since, they’ve had the same goal.
“We historically get a couple thousand wreaths but of course, Fort McPherson has tens of thousands of graves out there, we would love to be able to put a wreath on every single grave one year,” said Lee Bird Composite Squadron Commander Tom Moore.
The event is scheduled for Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. The deadline to for donations and sponsorships is Nov. 30.
The wreaths are $15 each or 10 wreaths for $150. To donate online, visit https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/42633, then click on “sponsor.”
To donate in person, stop by Great Plains Realty at 511 South Dewey in North Platte. If you have a specific grave you would like the wreath placed on please e-mail email@example.com.
