Thanksgiving boxes for local families
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A local man and the North Platte community are turning $50 into $600 within a day to provide Thanksgiving dinners to local families.
Scott Schroeder and his wife won $50 in a Carriage Ride with KODY Radio. They turned around and put it right back into the community. The Schroeder’s put a post on Facebook about making a food basket for one family in need, and people began nominating families. Local businesses and community members joined in to donate funds to create 25 meals for local families this Thanksgiving.
“It’s just the way I was raised. I mean my parents always raised me to look after your neighbor. It’s been a rough year for everybody, I mean with the virus and people being out of work, I wanted to help somebody out when I have the means to. I like to help people out,” Schroeder said.
Schroeder says he wants to raise his children to think of others.
“I got my little one here helping so I can teach her the same things that my parents taught me - to help other people and to give your time when you can. I think that’s an important lesson to teach kids,” Schroeder said.
Schroeder says the community’s generosity is one of the many things he loves about North Platte.
“North Platte’s a great community. That’s why I chose to raise my family here. We moved here in 1994. I’ve left and gone to the military and decided to come back here to raise my family because it’s a good community, because people look out for each other, people take care of each other,” Schroeder said.
