NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office continued a two-year holiday tradition by donating Thanksgiving baskets that included a turkey and all the trimmings. The program aims to help area families who are not able to afford a traditional holiday meal for their families.

The agency spent the past month seeking out families who could use the extra help this Thanksgiving holiday. Twenty-five families were helped this year, which is a slight increase from the year before. The names are provided to the law enforcement agency through schools and word of mouth.

“Lincoln County is very large and we noticed that a lot of people in our villages and rural communities don’t have access to some of the things that we have here that are centrally located in North Platte, so this was a way for us to connect with them,” said Investigator Season Trevino. “I know this year has been really hard on everybody especially with COVID. We have people that are on quarantine, people that have been laid off or even lost their jobs this year, so this is a way for us to reach out and just give them some help.”

The program is made possible through donations and partnerships with local and area businesses.
