NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - 19-year old Harlie Saathoff of North Platte will be in Lincoln County District Court soon for her trial for the stabbing death of 20-year old Bryce Wood of North Platte on November 12, 2020.

Judge Kent Turnbull is sending the process up to District Court where the biggest determination by the court will be if Saathoff is guilty of Second Degree Murder (the intentional killing of a person without premeditation) or Manslaughter.

Court records show that the purposes of the Preliminary Hearing in County Court are to determine if enough evidence exists to consider Second Degree Murder. The higher court will decide.

Court records also indicate that the testimony of Investigator Freeze and Sergeant Hoaglund, “two veteran and respected officers” show both are convinced “after having taken the Defendant’s (Saathoff’s) statement,” that the evidence (her statement), “supported an arrest for Manslaughter and not Second Degree Murder.”

Judge Turnbull lowered Saathoff’s bond from one million dollars to $750,000.
