Disposable masks polluting our community
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful figures out the best plans for recycling and beautifying our community. Although recycling is increasing in the community, there is an increase in pollution from disposable masks.
Since North Platte is close to bodies of water, the masks can end up our water supplies.
“We live between two rivers, so it is pretty likely that can blow into the rivers go down stream affect wildlife,” said President of KNPLCB Michael Phillips. “It could have some detrimental effects if it gets a lot worse.”
Some of the notable places to spot disposable masks on the ground include grocery stores parking lots and sides of the road.
Members of KNPLCB advise the community to be aware of their masks when they are not being worn.
“We keep North Platte clean not just for tourists, but for us to have pride in our community,” KNPLCB Executive Director Mona Anderson. “We want people to care. Mask disposable is a personal responsibility, and we owe it to our community.”
