NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -The Lincoln County Commissioners held a public hearing regarding a vacant boat ramp in Brady on Monday. A study of the property completed by Highway Superintendent Carla O’Dell outlined the property lines between the two landowners and the county.

The county commissioners expressed their cause of concern lies in the public interest and safety protocols involving accessibility for firefighters and other first responders.

“I know previous administrations have been reluctant to vacant county property right way for a variety of reasons such as the further expansion of houses, access to the property for existing and future landowners,” said Lincoln County Commissioner of District #2 Kent Weems.

The commissioners await a resolution which should be presented in the upcoming weeks. No decision has been made regarding the Brady property in question.

The Lincoln County Sheriff and Chief Deputy came before the board to review the current food vendor for the detention center to assure they are acting in the best interest of the inmates in their care. As they review and collect quotes from other vendors, inmate nutrition and costs are two key factors.

“It’s not lost upon them that the quality of the food is important. They want to provide a good meal for the inmates and keep them in good health,” said Commissioner Weems. “They don’t want a bunch of filler, soy, or any other by-product that is heavily utilized because of cost. They want good protein for the inmate’s health, so that’s factored in. I know they said it was factored in last time they bid because they changed the specifications to make sure that vendor did not cut corners as in regards to the quality of food and nutritional value.”

The next Lincoln County Commissioners meeting will be Jan. 18 at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
