MAXWELL, Neb. (KNOP) -

This basketball season is not being taken for granted by Jordan Miller, who is a senior at Maxwell and a member of the girl’s basketball team.

For a time, there was uncertainty over there being a winter sports season at all, but Miller says it’s nice to have an escape from the realities of real life.

“It’s really special because there’s a lot in the world that’s uncertain and it’s nice to be able to have a place to let it all out and have fun,” said Miller.

Head Coach of the Maxwell girl’s basketball team, Lane Swedberg, is in his first season with the team. Swedberg said when he took over, he was told it was going to be a young roster, so leaning on seniors like Miller has been important part of guiding the team as best as possible.

“I was kind of leaning on her a little bit to show me what the program was going to be all about and she’s met all those expectations and showed me what basketball was and what it has been and ways that we can improve it,’ said Swedberg.

Miller herself knew that her senior leadership would be valuable to the team.

“We lost a lot of seniors last year and there’s not many of us this year, so it’s important that we’re the ones that help our coach figure out the team.”

Kaitlyn Miller, Jordan’s cousin, said she is a vocal leader, whether it’s on the bench or in the game.

“She’s always willing to step up and just lead us from the bench, lead us from the court and she’s always super encouraging,” said Miller.
