Wednesday Forecast: Some Mid-Week Mildness!
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Sunshine, breezy winds, and mild January weather are expected as we head into the day on Wednesday as temperatures will about 10° to 20° above the seasonal average as afternoon highs reach the 50s to near 60° across the coverage area.
Ahead of a weak cold front, westerly and southwesterly winds will be breezy with sustained winds at 10 to 20 MPH with gusts up to 30 to 40 MPH possible at times. Through Wednesday afternoon, winds will turn to the northwest and will remain on the breezy side.
Slightly cooler weather is expected behind the weak front into the day on Thursday, though it will still be quite nice with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 40s to low 50s for western Nebraska.
Temperatures will continue to cool back into Friday and the weekend with temperatures falling to the upper 30s in North Platte on Friday and Saturday with middle 30s on Sunday. Chances for moisture will begin to creep into the forecast starting on Friday night where a few snow showers will be possible. This week and into next week, the weather pattern turns more active with near daily chances for some snow or a wintry mix of rain and snow. It appears now that no big systems are heading our way, at least through the weekend. Details on snowfall potential for next week still remain murky at best, so make sure to check back with later forecasts for more details. It does look like colder, more seasonal temperatures in the 30s would hang around for much of next week.
