Western Governors University Launches the “I Have a Dream” Scholarship
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s tenacity, Western Governors University (WGU) is opening a scholarship to assist students who dream of earning a degree. The I Have a Dream Scholarship emphasizes the perseverance, resilience, and commitment that students possess to chase their dreams.
“Martin Luther King Jr.’s day is to dream and to really think about what you want for the future and to realize you can make it happen, said WGU Regional Vice President Angie Besendorfer.
The “I Have a Dream” scholarship is highly competitive and awarded based on students’ academic record, previous college experience, readiness for online study, current competency, as well as other considerations.
This is the first time WGU has had the “I have a dream” scholarship in Nebraska.
“Some of our scholarships are focused on need. Some of our scholarships are focused on specific programs. This one is different because it is also for any degree, so that means anyone that has a dream about changing their life with higher education should apply for this scholarship,” said Besendorfer.
There is $100,000 allocated for this scholarship. Each recipient will be awarded scholarships up to $4,000.
Tuition for WGU can be around $7,000 per year. With the assistance of this scholarship, college can be affordable.
“WGU wants to partner with you on your dream to make it happen,” said Besendorfer. “This is just one way we can do that. You can be successful and have a different life. You just need to set goals and you can make it happen.”
The finalization of achieving your dream is closer than you think.
The application deadline is June 30, 2021.
