NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Fire Department is applying for new turnout gear. Striving to keep firefighters properly equipped and safe while doing their duty. City Council authorized the Fire Department to make an application to the Fiscal Year 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. This program is for funding replacement of Turnout Gear for all career and volunteer firefighters. The project costing $274,000 and The city committing to pay 10 percent matching funds at $27,400 if the application is successful.

“This would be a step in the direction of insuring that we have the latest gear, we have adequate gear and in fact we have back up gear for our folks so that we can be sure they are attired in the very latest equipment,” said North Platte Fire Chief, Dennis Thompson.

The grant application period closes February 12th. The Fire Department will know if they are successful in receiving this grant in late summer of 2021.
