NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Darian Diaz has enjoyed a wrestling career that most could only dream of. The North Platte Senior is a State Champion, a 2x District Winner, and has a career record of 163-12. Diaz has shattered several school records and eleven out of his twelve losses have been to fellow State Champs. Darian has a chance to make history again this year in Omaha. If he wins his second State Title, he will also eclipse Zack Denney for most career wins in Bulldog Wrestling history.

“I’m just happy, I’m excited, I’m proud of myself. I’m proud to be where I’m at right now. I’m happy to be able to have some of the teammates and coaches that I’ve had along the way to bring me to where I’m at right now,” said Diaz.

With over thirty colleges recruiting Darian, the standout Senior is keeping his options open until after the State Tournament. For those who haven’t been to State, Diaz offers some insight on a wrestler’s point of view:

As the sun sets on Darian’s high school wrestling career, the Senior reflects on the emotions surrounding his last trip to State.

“It’s just crazy to think that it’s my last State Tournament, it’s my last couple matches as a North Platte Bulldog. It’s just so unbelievable to think about, I just want to go out there one last time and prove everything I have to,” added Diaz.

From the sounds of it, the Bulldog spirit will remain with Darian well past his final week with the team.

“I wouldn’t want to be a part of any other team, I wouldn’t want to have any other coaches. I’m just happy to be a part of this community, this environment, it just feels like home,” concluded a smiling Diaz.
