More chances for snow tonight
Warming up Monday
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Looking back as we continue our weekend, it’s been 15 day’s since North Platte has experienced temperature above freezing and 9 days since we’ve had morning temperatures at zero or above. We FINALLY broke those trends Sunday, as a push of warm air swept into the area. Although the weekend will still be cold, but we are not anticipating seeing any negative signs in front of the 20 degree low. And no, we will not be seeing afternoon temperatures reaching the 44 degree average for this time of year, but strangely, ‘mid/upper 30s’ seems to have a nice ring to it. Which I think we will all appreciate.
There ARE some bumps to the weekend forecast. Late Saturday evening, some light snow will develop from the northwest in response to a cold front and low pressure trough. There may be some accumulations but the range will be on the light side. With accumulations across the majority of Nebraska sitting at a trace to one inch.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory Saturday night into Sunday morning... but this should stay to the east of North Platte.
With there being chances of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, this will result in mostly overcast conditions throughout the overnight hours. Temperatures will drop yet again to below freezing conditions with a low in the low/mid-20s across central Nebraska.
Any lingering clouds early Sunday will clear out and the rest of the day will be mostly sunny, with temperatures sitting in the mid to upper 30s as a high across the majority of the state. Some regions will even make it back into the 40s which we have not seen in what feels like ages.
Morning fog continues to be a concern over the next several days as we finally take to the business of melting off this snowpack. We will make some great strides to that end Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures climb into the mid and upper 40s with some 50s to the west. Another cold front sweeps in midweek, moderately dropping temperatures back into the 30s. With it comes a slight chance for some snow.
