North Platte Girls, Irish and Maxwell Boys tally postseason wins
Several of our local teams picked up wins tonight on the basketball court to keep their seasons alive.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The stakes were high today for several of our area teams taking the basketball court. With District and Sub-District play underway, teams needed a win to stay in contention for the State Tournament. The A-6 #1 seeded Lady Bulldogs took care of business tonight in front of an excited home crowd. North Platte was in control the whole game and defeated Omaha Northwest by a final score of 47-41.
Across town, the St. Pat’s boy’s team was looking to avoid an upset against Sandhills/Thedford. The Irish have only lost one game at home all season, in part due to a spirited home crowd that brings plenty of energy for the team. The Irish hold off the Knights tonight 57-35, picking up a win in front of the Irish faithful to advance to the D-11 Sub-District Finals.
“It’s nice to be here, definitely. Last year we weren’t here, we were in Hershey, so it’s just better to be at home in front of our fans,” said Jack Heiss.
The second game played at St. Pat’s tonight featured a thriller between Maxwell and Maywood-Hayes Center. The game saw seventeen lead changes and eight ties, in what was a back and forth affair. Fittingly, the game went to overtime, where the Wildcats were able to pick up the win by a point: 46-45 the final.
