NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -An organization found at both the high school and collegiate levels is working to educate others on the endless possibilities their group provides. This past week, Future Farmers of America (FFA) in North Platte High School (NPHS) and Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) shared the principles and goals of the organization and how it teaches life skills that can be also found in along with other skills.

“A lot of kids think that agriculture is just based on animals or farm or planting or harvests, but what I have gotten out of being an FFA member are life skills and opportunities,” said Elle Fisher Vice President of FFA at NPHS.

The goal of FFA week was to let potential new members learn more about the mission of the organization, benefits from joining and educate the community on the presence of FFA in the area. Although each FFA organization can vary by state, the programs in Nebraska focus on production and agriculture.

“Our programs draw in opportunities of public speaking and planning life skills for the future,” said Assistant Professor at NCTA Douglas Smith.

Students are still able to participate in FFA programs after high school. Some colleges such as NCTA have a collegiate FFA program. Collegiate programs continue to work with local high school chapters as more opportunities arise.

“FFA is really all-encompassing,” said Gillian Brinker the vice president of the FFA NCTA Chapter. “For example, it doesn’t really matter what career you want to get to. FFA can help you get there.”
