St. Patrick cheerleading team wins two championships
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -Last week, many cheerleaders across the state of Nebraska gathered in Grand Island for the state cheer competition. A local high school’s cheer and dance programs returned to North Platte as champions in their divisions.
The Saint Patrick’s cheerleading team competed in two divisions: Non-Tumbling Division Class D and Game Day Class D. The cheer team won first place in both.
“It’s been amazing because they have worked so hard. They practice every morning at 6:30 in the morning they don’t complain they show up and do the work,” said St. Patrick’s Cheer Coach Lisa Troshynsky. “It’s great when the hard work pays off.”
The girls are hoping to build off of their wins, keep the St. Patrick’s spirit high and raise the bar for next year even higher.
“This year, we are just super positive especially with everything that is going on, said Sophmore Captain Halley ChiChildressldess. “We just need to carry that over to next year and be confident in ourselves.”
The St. Patrick’s Cheer team is not the only championship spirit squad in the school. Since 2009, the St. Patrick’s Strutter dance team has won eight championships and 13 runner-up placements. They also have placed three times in the top four at the state competition.
