NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - New legislation wants veterans to be able to use the valuable skills that they have. Legislative Bill 263 would allow veterans to apply skills learned in the military once they re-enter the civilian workforce.

Mike Beyer worked as an electrician in the Navy for eight years. But Beyer could not use his military experience to bypass licensing requirements in Nebraska. He essentially had to restart his career due to the current licensing requirements.

Beyer is just one of the thousands affected by this. The passing of LB 263 would result in him having better opportunities for electrical work within his community. Officials say this could have a positive impact on the state of Nebraska.

LB 263 passed in Iowa and Missouri last year. With neighboring states passing this bill, many veterans hope that Nebraska will join them.
