Hershey places first at North Platte Doubles Invitational
The Panthers put together an impressive performance to beat out several of our area schools for top place
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Lady Panthers claimed the North Platte Doubles Invite crown today over North Platte, Lexington, Ogallala, Gering, and Scottsbluff. Hershey’s #1 team of Carly Sexson and Anna Berntson went undefeated on the day, winning all five of their matches.
“It is nice to see all of our hard work we have been putting in pay off. Bringing home the win was a great way to start the season,” said Berntson.
“This win was a really great start to the season...The hard work doesn’t stop now, we have big goals to reach,” added Sexson.
This is the first tournament the Hershey tennis team has won in several years, an important step forward for a motivated program.
“Hershey has a great sports tradition and incredible support from their fans. I am so proud that the years of hard work from all of the tennis players is finally starting to pay off in the form of some wins. These girls, their families, and the administration deserve all the credit for establishing such a great culture that instills confidence in not only the tennis team, but in every activity,” said Head Coach John Lehmer.
Lexington’s #3 team of Gracey Smith and Kayleigh Cetak also went undefeated on the day. The duo didn’t give up more than four games in any of the matches they played today.
North Platte was the only school in the tournament to have multiple teams go undefeated. The Bulldogs #4 and #5 teams both were a perfect 5-0 on the day. Courtney Coates and Torie Laubenstein played at four, while Reagan Douglas, Kaylie Leibhart, and Breanna Lundgreen represented the five spot.
Finally, Ogallala had three teams tally at least three victories. The Lady Indian’s #1, #3, and #4 teams all captured a trio of victories, including wins over Scottsbluff.
