NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - This week’s Friday Night Sports Hero is Hershey Senior Anna Berntson. Anna helped lead the Lady Panthers to a victory at the North Platte Doubles Invitational last week. Berntson and her partner, Carly Sexson, went undefeated from the #1 doubles spot, winning all five of their matches.

“It felt good to represent Hershey...We haven’t had a lot of success in past seasons, so we’re coming in strong and hopefully we’ll compete well this season,” said Berntson.

Hershey Head Tennis Coach John Lehmer saw the potential in Berntson her Freshman year and put Anna on the Varsity team. Bernston won both of her matches today against Lexington, continuing to set the tone for her team.

“She’s a great leader. She’s a hard worker, she has been ever since her Freshman year...She enjoys leading the other girls,” said Lehmer.

Anna will use that leadership in her last season with the team to help ensure the Lady Panthers make up for lost time.

“I mean, not having a season last year just made me want to get out on the court and go and compete. We know there’s a lot of competition out there, so we just have to keep working,” added Berntson.

That ambitious attitude has served Anna well on the tennis court, but she applies that same fervor to all aspects of her life.

“All the way around, she’s awesome. She’s exactly what every coach would ever want. In the classroom, she’s the same way, grades are awesome, great student...Just an overall great example to all the girls,” concluded Lehmer.
