NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Region IX Championship provided plenty of excitement for the NPCC Volleyball Team. The Lady Knights entered the day with the possibility of finishing scheduled play 13-13. They did just that, jumping out to an early two set lead over Central Community College. The Lady Raiders responded winning the next two sets, before NPCC sealed the victory with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.
Alysen Daniels provided the finishing touches on the first set. With a 24-20 advantage, the Sophomore from Mullen rose up and delivered a beautiful kill down the line. The second set was tightly contested as well, seeing NPCC hold a 23-21 advantage after the first 44 points of the set. Moments later, Nebraska Wesleyan Commit Erica Hopping left a perfect set for Taylor Hansen, who secured the set with a powerful kill.
After dropping the next two sets, the Lady Knights recovered nicely in the final frame. Trailing 1-2, NPCC surged for a 7-5 lead, and maintained control the rest of the way. The final point saw Tania Morales and Erica Hopping dive to keep the ball alive, before Morales recovered to deliver the final blow to the Lady Raiders.
The celebration was on for NPCC as the bench stormed the court, tackling Morales and embracing one another in celebration. With today’s victory, the Lady Knights now turn their attention to the District G Game scheduled for April 2nd.
