NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The North Platte Police Department (NPPD) pieced together clues of a shooting called in to the North Platte 911 center on Tuesday, arresting 30-year-old Eduardo Gomez the following day.

Gomez was identified on security footage taken from a business on the 1000 block of Rodeo Road. Here is a copy of the NPPD’s press release:

On April 6, 2021, at 10:29 p.m., Officers responded to the 1000 Block of Rodeo Road for suspicious activity. The North Platte 911 Center had received two reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, Officers located a single vehicle in the parking lot but were unable to locate anyone in the area. Officers checked around the parking lot and found evidence to indicate that shots had been fired at this location.

Officers viewed security footage from the business and observed a male subject enter the building who appears to have an injury to his leg. The injured male was seen entering the business right around the time the gunshots were reported. The male then lays on the ground while it appears others assist in providing first aid to the male victim. Officers notified several area hospitals about the possibility of a victim with gunshot wounds, coming to their facilities. Officers processed the scene further and found more evidence that a shooting took place. A few hours later, Officers were notified that a male subject had been brought to Great Plains Health with a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers responded and made contact with the victim. Officers confirmed that victim in the ER, was the injured male seen on security footage. It was also confirmed that the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim’s injuries are not considered life threatening.

On April 7, Investigators reviewed more security footage from the incident and were able to identify a suspect in the shooting, as 30 year old Eduardo Gomez. The video showed that an altercation took place prior to the shots being fired. Around 11:00 a.m., Gomez and his vehicle were located in the 100 Block of West 1st Street. Gomez was taken into custody at this time. A search warrant was obtained for Gomez’ vehicle where more evidence was located. A firearm was also recovered. After investigation, Gomez was placed under arrest. Gomez was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center for 1st Degree Assault, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony and Terroristic Threats. The investigation is ongoing.
