NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A historic pairing between two local schools gives our area it’s first high school baseball program west of Kearney. The newly formed Maxwell-St. Pat’s baseball team took to Bill Wood Field today for their home opener. It was a doubleheader with a great home crowd in attendance, enjoying the tailgate put on by NebraskaLand National Bank. The Bank is a leading sponsor for the team, presenting a check of $16,050 to the program. Those funds stand to help the co-op for years to come, as they try to build their program.

“To see two communities come together to bring this new opportunity for our youth, we are just really excited to be able to help support and provide some of the upfront costs. At NebraskaLand Bank, we’re just all about community...It’s number one for us to reinvest in the community,” said the bank’s Chief Operating Officer, Kim Schroll.

Although the team lost both of their games against the Kernels today, there was still plenty of excitement in the air. Andrew Brosious tallied the first hit for the program in the early innings. The Sophomore connected with a fastball for an infield single, displaying an impressive burst of speed to beat the throw to first base.

Maxwell-St. Pat’s returns to Bill Wood Field for another double header this Saturday at 11 AM.
