NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Brandon Baxter remembers Beverly Dismukes fondly. In fact, she was his music teacher and mentor.

“She helped nurture me musically, helped me think about college and she guided me toward a musical career,” Baxter said.

Baxter is the band director at Adams Middle School.

“It gives them a sense of pride in their work and kids at this age need that,” Baxter said.

The school district’s music department received an $80,000 donation from Dismukes who passed away last year.

“I think it’s amazing that somebody would do that with their own money and be able to say, “well this school needs instruments so kids can learn and really continue their music career,” said band student Sawyer Magnuson. “I just think it’s amazing the donation itself.”

The school recently purchased two saxophones with the funds. The funds will be put into a trust fund to use throughout the district’s music department.
