New Pickleball Courts at Memorial Park
The new facilities were played on for the first time this evening by members of the community.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Memorial Park was the place to be this evening as members of North Platte Pickleball played on the city’s brand new courts for the first time. Four courts were installed at the park, and tonight, pickleball enthusiasts could have filled twice that!
“There’s nothing I’d rather do than come to the pickleball courts and not be able to play because there’s too many people! We have such a great turnout because the sport is so much fun,” said St. Pat’s Wrestling Coach Kevin Wood.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. Here in North Platte, the sport has certainly found a home.
“We grew from just twelve players a year ago and now we have over seventy five members. I took up the game a couple of years ago and it has really encouraged me to get in shape and have a fun time with nice people,” said North Platte Pickleball’s Barb Baldridge.
Today, several high school athletes were in attendance playing the sport that bears a resemblance to tennis. One North Platte tennis player who has played pickleball for awhile, was particularly impressed with the new facilities.
“I think the courts are really nice and the community really deserves them. Pickleball is fun like tennis, it’s another thing to come out and do during the summer. It’s really nice and a great way to stay active,” said NPHS Junior Dominique Estrada.
