NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Mass is an important part of the Catholic faith.

The North Platte Community College hosted the 53rd annual Field Mass at 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The service was held by the Platte River in commemoration of the history of the Catholic faith here in Nebraska.

The service included singing, praying, speaking, and the taking of the holy communion.

“Celebrating the heritage of Nebraska, and the catholic faith being brought to this region,” Monsignor Karl Millis said.

The objective of this mass was to spread the gospel to the community.

“It goes back to the historical events of the 1700′s when Priest Father Juan Miguel came to the area to bring the gospel,” Millis said.

The Field Mass was presented by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
