LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police are declaring a second shooting that happened in the Capital City over the weekend as a homicide.
LPD says they found two people dead at 30th and P Streets around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. Officers were responding to a 911 from a victim reporting he’d been shot.
Once police got to the residence, two people were found deceased inside, police said in a Facebook post. The male victims are 26 and 42 years old.
Residents in the area said they woke up to the commotion.
“All of the sudden I just see these blinking lights and stuff I go outside and there’s like 35 cops standing here,” said Davien Wilson, Lincoln.
Wilson said he and his family moved to the neighborhood two weeks ago and is concerned after last week’s homicide and Saturday’s shooting in downtown Lincoln.
“It’s just really alarming you know we don’t want our kids outside today,” Wilson said. “It’s three houses down from me it’s sad. it’s just really sad.”
Others who lived in the neighbor longer said this is the first incident like this they’ve seen in the area.
“This is a very very sad incident,” said Nigel Tinarwo, Neighbor. “It’s very disheartening. It’s a beautiful Sunday morning and to have death on your front doorstep is pretty sad.”
Shortly after the original call, a third shooting victim arrived at an area hospital. The 19-year-old male is in serious, but stable condition, police said. Investigators have determined that this victim is connected to incident.
According to LPD’s website, this shooting is being listed as a homicide case, the second one in Lincoln in 2022 and in less than a week.
As of 7:15 a.m., no suspects were in custody, however Lincoln Police said they believe this is an isolated incident and there’s no ongoing threat to the public.
Anybody with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (402) 475-3600.
This marks six people shot over the weekend. Police responded to reports of three people shot in downtown Lincoln early Saturday morning.
It’s been a violent stretch of days in Lincoln. Police also reported the first homicide of the year on Thursday morning. Three people have been arrested in that investigation.
“Hoping that this type of violence, that the police specifically would help to reduce these types of incidents,” Tinarwo said. “It would be nice to see stronger efforts to reduce whatever caused this problem to happen.”
