'Sweet Saloon' serves up cinnamon rolls

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-- Anyone who visits the Sweet Saloon is in for a treat. The NEBRASKAland DAYS event is known for tasty cinnamon rolls, but it would not be possible without the many people who lend a hand to coordinate it.

The Sweet Saloon is a fundraiser for the North Platte Community College Lady Knights Volleyball Team and has been around since 2005.

About 15 volunteers roll up their sleeves to help make at least 200 dozen rolls each day, or 7,200 rolls over the course of the fundraiser; but, preparation and planning begins as early as January.

"We have a great group of ladies [who volunteer]," Alexa McCall, head volleyball coach, said. "We wouldn't be able to do it without them and we've been doing it for a long time."

McCall adds that the community's continued support of the fundraiser means a lot.

"[People] say, 'Oh, you're selling Sweet Saloon? I love those. I love those rolls.' I think it's something that people remember and look forward to each year, and so that's always fun," McCall noted.

To place an order, call 535-3696 and leave a message. Orders can be placed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11-13 and from 8 a.m. to noon June 14. In-person orders will also be accepted during that time at McDaid Elementary.

The cost of the rolls is $18 per dozen. The rolls can be picked up at McDaid Elementary, the Do-It Center, Westfield Pharmacy, Sports Shoppe and the concession area on NPCC's South Campus.
