Plane crashes near Arthur, killing one man

ARTHUR, Neb.-- Authorities are trying to figure out what caused a plane to crash three miles southeast of Arthur, killing one man.

Sheriff Bill Simpson of Arthur County says that the crash happened in the early afternoon of Friday.

Simpson says that the plane was traveling from Iowa to Alliance, Neb., making a stop in Thedford for fuel and to visit friends, according to witnesses on the scene.

Simpson says that officials with the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause and cleaned up the scene on Saturday morning. He says crews will take the plane to Greeley, Colo. to check its engine and determine if it played a role in the crash.

Authorities are not releasing the victim's name, as they work to notify kin.
