SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - The Emporium in Scottsbluff is shuttering its doors after 17 years of success.

Sara Schluter, general manager of the fine dining establishment, says its bittersweet for them to close but due to declining business her and her husband Ron have decided to say goodbye.

“We went into this with no experience,” says Sara.

Ron came to the area for a job 18 years ago and a year later, Sara thought she would dabble in a little lunch/coffee place.

Over the years there have been many successes and memories. The restaurant has seen weddings and engagements, laughter and tears but for the couple they felt it was time. The restaurant also was featured in an NET special about dining across Nebraska and was even named as one of the best places to have a burger in the country by Parade magazine.

Ron is big into coffee and says they will keep their kiosks at the Main Street Market and Regional West Medical Center.

Sara will look back on the memories and the people they have met along the way as the restaurant begins to close up.

It all began with the coffee and turned into a different adventure filled with memories for the couple and their kids who are now in the food industry themselves. But even a tearful Sara has to admit she couldn’t do it without the staff they have.

The Emporium will remain open for dinner until Saturday, November, 24th.
