NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Wednesday, on the 18th anniversary of 9/11, a North Platte church held a service in honor of first responders.
Saint Patrick's Catholic Church hosted a "Blue Mass" to honor those who lost their lives 18 years ago. The tradition allows everyone to honor and pray for all active, retired and deceased first responders.
During the 30 minute service, there was music, prayers, scripture readings and prayers read for first responders.
It was put on by the Knights of Columbus and was facilitated by them and Father Josh Brown of Saint Patrick's Church. Andrew Mueller with The Knights of Columbus said we should all thank our first responders.
"It's time that we show our first responders the respect that they deserve because, if you think about it when there's a disaster were running out, they're running in, we know we are running out to safety they don't know what they are running into and whether they will ever run out again," said Mueller.
Mueller said it was their first year holding the Blue Mass on September 11th and they plan to do it again next year.
