Sonnichsen was previously serving as city council president, before the recall of former Mayor Jonathon Berghorst.

Sonnichsen was sworn in by City Clerk Stephanie Wright and then presented a speech to the public.

"Priorities? Number one is going to be filled the positions so we’re running on all cylinders before the spring hits," said Sonnichsen during his speech. He said there are 4-6 open positions he is looking to immediately fill.

He said there has been a lot of buzz about the change.

"I'm reaching almost 100 phone calls in the last 48 hours plus," said Sonnichsen, "They want to know what changes I’m going to make and so I had to think about that. Everything is in place, everything is in place that we need to go and do, forward from here so I look at no changes, everything is there."
