The road to becoming Miss Nebraska is a long one and the first step is winning a local title.
On Friday, nine contestants competed for several local titles. Those include Miss Twin Rivers, Miss Sandhills, and Miss Outstanding Teen.
The pageant kicks off Crowns and Gowns at the Quality Inn in North Platte. Some contestants showed off their dancing skills while others displayed their talent with a musical instrument.
There are seven judges who are community leaders from the state of Nebraska. One former contestant had this advice for those thinking of competing.
"Do it. Jump right in and go for it. There is so much you can do. You'll walk away even if you don't win, you'll walk away a winner because there's skills that you learn that will take you so much father in life," said Larissa McKean, the co-director of the pageant.
Crowns and Gowns will continue on Saturday at Quality Inn.
