Dominator 3 Team in the area storm chasing

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP Where there is extreme weather you can bet he and his team will be right there.

Accuweather Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer and Team Dominator 3 are in the area chasing tornadoes.

As expected, his military-style vehicle was quite the show stopper.

It's protected by a military grade 16-gauge steel lining and is fully equipped with bullet proof windows.

They say even though they put themselves on the front lines of almost every major storm and natural disaster that hits the country, it's the life-saving data collected from the “Dominator” that makes it all the worthwhile.

"These tornadoes, as they are approaching, you can't really just gauge it that's why it's important to have a vehicle like the Dominator with all the bells and whistles that it has because we are able to fire those rockets that are going to go directly into this tornado and tell us what kind of beast we're looking at," said Critical Response Team Director Michael Saavedra. "That's why it's essential and that's why don't hire regular people to show up and do it, these are all trained specialized people."

The Team Dominator 3 is active year round.

They respond and assist communities that have been impacted by tornadoes, hurricanes, flash floods and wildfires.
