NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Former Lincoln County Treasurer Lorie Koertner doesn't know why she was removed from office.

Monday morning she delivered a pre-written statement to the County Commissioners, handed a copy of her letter to the press and left the room.

Koertner stated in her letter, "I have been given no charges, told of no proposed action, given no information identifying grounds for action asserted against me, and no chance to know who the witnesses are or what the evidence would be to support any charges that might be lodged. I have not been given the right to know what the evidence will be and therefore cannot present a defense, intelligently cross-examine adverse witnesses, or otherwise participate in a meaningful hearing."

Koertner's next hearing is scheduled for June 24th at 10 a.m.

Former treasurer Sue Fleck declined to fill the position. Commissioner's appointed Shelly Franzen to the treasurer's position in an interim role. Franzen has previously worked as an employee in the treasurer's office.
