Getting to know North Platte's First Responders

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. The North Platte Police and Fire Departments came together to hold the First Responder Picnic with the Public at Cody Park on Sunday.

Local businesses donated hot dogs, drinks and chips for people to enjoy.

Kids had fun playing on the blow up toy.

They were also able to have a look inside the emergency vehicles.

North Platte Police Chief Daniel Hudson says the picnic allows the community to get to know their first responders in a more relaxed environment.

'We really want to show unity with our community and with our public- between the public safety team and the citizens of North Platte. We're here to serve the citizens of North Platte," Chief Hudson said.

"All of our police officers are human. They have a very difficult job to do but they come to work everyday and they try to make a difference in our community."

Hudson says there were approximately 500 people who attended the picnic.

This event also kicks off National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Week.
