Grant dollars fund tourism marketing and promotion

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Almost $10,000 in grant dollars is going to local events for tourism marketing. The North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau is giving money to six organizations.

The Platte River Fitness Series Chris Jarvis Autumn River Run Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 5K will $2,260.00 in sports incentive funds to pay for professional computer chip timing for the event scheduled for October 6, 2019.

The North Platte Community Playhouse will use $1,000.00 to market the 2019/2020 season of live productions with focus on social media.

Top Tier MMA and Boxing will use $700 for the Top Tier Invitational Taekwondo Tournament scheduled for October 5th. Some of it will target social media marketing. Some dollars will offset costs for hosting it. Top Tier MMA and Boxing was recommended to receive $200.00 in promotion funds for the Top Tier Invitational Taekwondo Tournament scheduled for October 5, 2019. Half of that amount will be given directly to the organization for social media marketing, and half will be dedicated to marketing the event on the social media platforms administered by the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau. The event was also recommended to receive sports incentive funds in the amount of $500.00 to help offset costs of hosting their event.

Midwest Championship Fighting was recommended to receive $2,000.00 in promotion funds to promote the MCF 18 MMA fights scheduled for October 19, 2019. Half of that amount will be given directly to the organization for social media marketing, and half will be dedicated to marketing the event on the social media platforms administered by the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau.

The North Platte Area Sports Commission was recommended to receive $3,000.00 in sports incentive funds for prize money at the American Cornhole Organization Masters Series Major Tournament scheduled for January 11 & 12, 2020 at the D & N Event Center. Cornhole is a fast-growing sport nationwide and one that North Platte can easily host at a number of different venues.

The Nebraska Country Music Foundation was recommended to receive $500.00 in promotion funds and $500.00 in event incentive funds for the 2019 Nebraska Country Music Festival scheduled for October 18 and 19. This is the third year the Nebraska Country Music Festival and Hall of Fame induction has been held in North Platte after relocating here from Hastings. In the past attendance at the Festival has been about 40% from Lincoln County, 30% from greater Nebraska, 20% from surrounding states and 10% of visitors came from across the United States and foreign countries.

The next round of Promotional, Incentive and Sports Incentive grant applications is now open, with an October 1 deadline for events occurring in January, February and March of 2020. These applications will be considered at the regular monthly Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for October 23. Anyone interested in submitting a grant application is encouraged to contact the Visitors Bureau at 308-532-4729 and discuss their project with a staff member.

Grant funds, marketing and operating expenses for the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau are funded solely through the lodging taxes that are collected and remitted for overnight stays by lodging properties in Lincoln County. It is thanks to the efforts of the lodging property partners located within the county that funds are available to attract more visitors, which have a significant impact on the economic well-being of our Lincoln County communities.
