Hershey Fire Department receives new pump truck

Having the right tools and equipment is essential for firefighters to do their job and on Monday, the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a big step in making sure they are well equipped for any situation.

Christmas has come early for these firefighters in the form of a brand new fire pump truck. The pump will be replacing their old one from 2005.

"It's a 92' model so you know, it's served us since that time. You know, there's little things on them. The parts are becoming more difficult to get," said Hershey Fire Chief, Toby Tobiasson.

The pump costs close to $400,000. It will be paid in full from funds from the Hershey Fire Protection District and money from fundraising events like the annual Hershey Spaghetti Feed. The department says the new pump will help them better service the area.

"Our old pumper was rated for 1,250 gallons per minute. The new one will have it, and it is equipped at 1,500 gallon per minute," said Tobiasson.

They hope to have the new pump truck up and running by this week.
