SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - Family says their child was left in a van while under the care of a daycare in town.
According to Jamee Anderson and Kasey Emmett their child was left in a van for an hour after picked up from preschool by Play, Learn, Grow Daycare. The couple details the staff was not sure where their child was when they came by to pick her up.
The little girl was eventually found as the only one in the van and sleeping.
We reached out to the owner of the daycare who says the van pulled up to the daycare at 4:04p.m to drop off the kids. The owner mentioned the staff member did not comb through the van to ensure everyone was out.
The realization the child was missing became evident at 5:14p.m. During this time, staff then searched the entire facility and could not locate the child.
Emmett says he thought to look in the van where they found the little girl; the entire search took eight minutes according to the owner.
At the moment the child was found, the owner says she personally placed a call to the state compliance notifying them of the situation. She adds the daycare has never received a write-up for improper care before.
The owner also mentioned the staff member was fired on the spot. She adds they pulled the surveillance video from the building after contacting the landlord to see what transpired. We contacted the landlord to try to get the video and at the time of this release have not heard back.
Scottsbluff Police are working on an investigation and the owner of the daycare says the state came out to do theirs.
For now, Anderson and Emmett have taken their kids out of the daycare and say their child is afraid to be alone. One of her siblings is also taken to ensuring that she is safe by staying by her side.
The owner of the daycare sent out a statement to the parents of all the kids that go there notifying them of the situation and letting them know who to contact if they have any questions or concerns.
