Law enforcement search for driver after he fled police

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. According to Sgt. Hovey of the North Platte Police Department a man is on the run.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of 14th Street and Sheridan Avenue after a driving violation at 9:46 p.m. on Saturday night.

The suspect fled which led to a vehicular pursuit.

Hovey said the chase eventually took them southbound on Buffalo Bill Avenue.

Police successfully disabled the car by using a spike strip, however, the driver continued onto the overpass of Buffalo Bill Ave. over I-80.

After the suspect reached the bottom of the overpass he drove off of the road onto the east side of Buffalo Bill Ave. and fled on foot into a nearby tree line.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and North Platte Police Department searched for the man but were unsuccessful.

However, various items were left in the car which law enforcement said will lead them to the suspect.

Law enforcement also found drugs and an illegal firearm in the car.

According to Hovey the suspect isn't considered a threat to the public.

The name of the man is not being released at this time.
