The Lincoln County Commissioners approved special inspections on two bridges in the county that are at risk of failing on Monday.

One is located north of Sutherland and the other is just south of Wellfleet. The inspections will be done by Schemmer Associates and Jensen Engineering.

The majority of the cost will be paid for by the state. County officials say these bridges have low traffic count on them, but their design makes them at risk.

"These are both fracture critical bridges, which means they don't have enough girders under them. If they just have one girder on each side, most have three or four, if one of these were to fail, the whole bridge would fail then," said County Highway Superintendent Carla O'Dell.

The inspections are expected to take less than a week.
