Lincoln County votes to increase County Commissioners from 3 to 5

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. The voters of Lincoln County voted to increase the number of County Commissioners from three to five.

The issue made it to the ballot in 2006 but lost by a small margin.

Duane McClain pushed for the issue to re-appear on the ballot. He was told he needed 1,125 signatures to get it approved. He turned in 1,450.

One of the reasons for the petition was to seek more representation from the more rural areas of Lincoln County.

Another was in hopes it would encourage diverse opinions to have a voice.

Dawson County has five commissioners with approximately 10 thousand less people and Keith County has five with approximately 20 thousand less people.
