For the 8th year in a row giving Tuesday follows Thursday's Thanksgiving celebration.

North Platte Catholic Schools and L2 For Kids are able to serve their mission based on the generosity of others. At the Platte River Mall Tuesday, a national organization called Thrivent Financial chose to raise money for L2 for Kids. L2 For Kids members sold ribs for donations. They gave away free t shirts.

The focus of L2 for kids is to buy school clothes for needy children.

The organizers say they love the excitement that the kids feel going shopping at Walmart and getting to pick their very own items.

David Olson, an L2 For Kids Board Member felt proud of their work.

"Most of us like myself grew up poor in Nebraska and we had patched jeans and patched overalls so I understand the need and the feeling of the young kids getting to the buy their own clothes. I never had that chance," said Olson.

North Platte's Catholic schools are working to raise money for their teachers. They're hoping any donations today will fund an account to pay for teachers educational expenses. Endowment Director Wendy Dodson calls it their Great Teaching Fund.

Wendy Dodson the Director of NP Catholic Schools Endowment, felt this gave teachers and students a chance to improve on their work.

"We are very blessed in the community of North Platte. We get great support not only from our catholic community but from the community in general and it's nice to be able to have a day like this that draws extra attention to charitable giving for all of the nonprofits in North Platte," said Dodson.

Dodson says the money is often used by teachers to earn masters degrees. By doing so, they can teach courses where kids can get high school and college credit. They see it as a win win for teachers and students.

The hope is giving one day will translate into giving all year round. You can find more information on the organizations at
