Local family makes homemade honey
Sassy Pants Honey has honey products such as their lip balms, smoothie bars, honey, and home made snacks. It all started when Shelly realized there was a problem with the bees and how their population is dwindling.
Shelly Deardoff, Owner of Sassy Pants Honey said she wanted to do something to be helpful.
"The fact that we can offer really quality products, it means a lot," said Deardoff.
The family now has 3 hives in the back yard. Their first season they had 11 little tiny jars and now 168 pounds of honey. Shelly says the smoothie bars help just about anyone looking to help with dry skin or sore throats in the winter. This family puts on their beekeeper clothing, farms the honey, and once collected, begin to create their product. The entire family is involved.
Both Shelly and her daughter have full time jobs and do this on the side.
Suzi Knolles, Shelly's daughter in charge of marketing and finance takes pride in her North Platte community.
"I've been amazed by the amount of support that we've received from our community," said Knolles.
North Platte has many local businesses. Shelly and her family believe enterpenuership and local businesses are important to North Platte, and take pride in being apart of that.
