Local flower shops prep for Valentine's Day

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP It's no secret Valentine's Day is the busiest day of the year for local floral shops.

In fact, florists at The Flower Market have been preparing for weeks getting ready to make hundreds of arrangements for the big day.

However, they are also warning people about buying flowers online.

Florists say when it comes to sending flowers, it's always best to send from a real local florist.

Not only do you receive the freshest quality flowers this way, but you can rest assure you're getting everything you paid for.

"There is a lot of company's now that act like a florist, but they are really just online order gatherers," said The Flower Market Owner Sarah Talbott. "So overall, say you spend a $100, these order gatherers will then call us say they have an $80 order, they are taking $20 dollars or a certain percentage of that fee, so it's really important that you are ordering from a local shop that has a physical location."

Talbott says by doing your research, you're not only getting a better value for your money, but you're also helping your community thrive.

If you are on a budget this Valentine's Day, keep in mind roses and lilies are not only the most popular flowers, but they're also the most expensive.

Which in this case, carnations and daisies are your best options.
