LONG PINE, Neb. (KNOP) - A 26-year-old Nebraska man is charged in the death of a Merna man in Brown County. Court records show Nathan Yankowski is charged with second-degree murder and terroristic threats. 18-year-old Logan Maring, of Merna, was shot in Yankowski's home.

Officials say the body of a dead Merna man was found in his home on May 22, north of Long Pine. A court document says Yankowski gave a couple of accounts about how Logan Maring had been shot in the head with a .22-caliber revolver before finally acknowledging that he'd been fooling around with the gun and had pointed it at Maring.

Yankowski told a deputy his thumb slipped off the hammer of the cocked weapon and it went off. Yankowski's attorney saysYankowski would plead not guilty.
