Man found guilty of penguin statue theft sentenced for probation violation

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-- The 21-year-old man who was found guilty of stealing a penguin statue from Cody Park will spend 364 days behind bars for violating conditions of his probation.

Alexander Fourtner said, "A lesson is learned," ahead of sentencing by Judge Richard Birch in Lincoln County District Court.

Fourtner plead guilty to the violations, related to conditions on alcohol and drug use and reporting to the probation office.

In handing down the sentence, Birch noted that Fourtner has no prior record.

He will spend the sentence in the Lincoln County Detention Center, with credit for 177 days already served.

Fourtner will also pay for court costs.
